Work can be your passion, trade and livelihood. To lose your
work or have it adversely affected by an accident on the job can
be devastating.
Few people understand the physical, emotional and financial hardships that this devastation can bring to a person’s
life better than H. Guy Smith of Smith, Feddeler, Smith & Miles.

In fact, his life’s work has been shaped by this understanding.
The story of Smith, Feddeler, Smith & Miles actually began
in 1942 with Gordon Elmo Rodgers, uncle to H. Guy Smith,
who fell while working in a saw mill in the rural town of Cross
City, Florida. He was paralyzed from the waist down and
spent the remainder of his life as a paraplegic as a result of the
fall.
Due largely in part to a lack of knowledge of the Florida
Workers’ Compensation Law and inadequate medical treatment,
he died at the age of thirty, only fourteen months after the
accident, leaving behind his wife and small children.
Years later his son, Jimmy, fell five stories while working
as a carpenter and sustained massive injuries and multiple spinal
fractures. Fortunately, he sought legal representation from his
cousin, H. Guy Smith.
Previous to this event, Mr. Smith had
been primarily involved in the representation of insurance
companies. However, sharing in the experience and perspective of
an injured family member and personally observing the
devastation brought on by an accident on the job, his career focus
changed drastically.
H. Guy Smith left the representation of
insurance companies and there after pledged his practice to the representation of injured individuals to ensure that they and their
families are treated fairly and receive all of the benefits to
which they are entitled by law.
